To make coils that are all the
same size, a quilling board is easy to use.
 |
1. Tight coil/peg/circle/roll
Roll up a strip as tight as possible and glue the loose end. Try to make the centre as small as you can. |

2. Closed coil/spiral
Roll up a strip. Glue the loose end after the shape has been loosened, by hand or with the help of a quilling board. |
All further shapes will be made with the closed coil/spiral.

3. Teardrop
Make a closed coil and pinch one end between your thumb and index finger. |
 |
4. Flame/curved teardrop
Make a teardrop (no. 3) and bend the pinched end to one side. |
 |
5. Oval
Make a closed coil and push it into shape, but do not pinch it. |
 |
6. Eye
Same as no. 2, but now use both hands to pinch both ends firmly at the same time. |
 |
7. Leaf/S-shape
Same as no. 5, but bend both ends in opposite directions. |
 |
8. Petal
Bend the closed coil round a fingernail. |
 |
9. Moon/Crescent
Bend the closed coil round your finger or something like a dowel and then pinch both ends. |
